Compared to Paris the opportunities for street photography in Amsterdam can only be found on a much smaller scale. Having said that there is something about Amsterdam that provides opportunities everytime I visit the place. Truly a multicultural city it's got a magic one would be hard pushed to find anywhere else. Went there last week and this is one of the results.

Been a while. Have been quite busy. Met this farmer on a small and local market in Germany not too far from where I live. Real salt of the earth kind of guy. Great vegetables too. As long as people like him are around you can keep your supermarkets.

What better place than in front of an old fashioned stove in a pub that hasn't changed since decades when it's really cold outside. Cities are a great place to shoot but small communities can be a real treasure cove as well. This was an old miner who spoke in a local and quite hard to understand Flemish dialect but a real great guy to talk with. Full of stories and not too shy in sharing them. Of course, a few beers always help to break the ice.

The last few days have not been a good time to do some street shooting. While snow has become quite a rarity in the Netherlands we are now right in the middle of a "blizzard", at least to Dutch criteria. So with the roads as good as undrivable, public transport severely compromised and a nationwide wheather alert there is hardly anyone outside so apart from walking the dogs, which is actually quite a bit of fun, there is not a lot of opportunity to do any shooting in the middle of continuing snowdrifts. If it goes on through the night getting to work in the morning could prove next to impossible. Still, I remember these days from my childhood and it brings back a lot of good memories.

While I shoot a lot of Urban and Cityscapes there is nothing that is infinitely more interesting as the people out there. Sometimes it's shooting on the go as it were but every now and then it leads to meeting fabulous people from all walks of life which gives an extra dimension to the roving around out there. This pair I shot in Amsterdam and, as is the case in most places now, smokers are banned from inside and despite the heavy cold you'll always can find people out there. It makes for a great meeting place where you get in contact with people you would otherwise never have met.

Another recent shot of London. I like to rove around at night not just because there's a different dynamic but even more so because of the sense of solitude and different aesthetics it provides. Simply put, the world is a different place.

Back from a recent trip to London I'm still battling the after effects of a severe H1N1 infection and haven't been out in more than two weeks. Oh well, I'm planning a trip to either London or more likely Paris in January.

This one I shot on Piccadilly during a heavy downpour.
